چکیده
purpose: to report the first case of concomitant optic nerve transection and chorioretinitis sclopetaria patient and findings: a 12-year-old boy with history of bb gun injury to his right eye was referred for loss of vision 8 months after the accident. visual acuity in the right eye was counting fingers at one meter with 3+ rapd. on slit lamp examination, right eye seemed normal except 1+ anterior vitreous reaction. fundus exam of right eye revealed a pale disc with superior retinal scar and diffuse submacular fibrosis compatible with chorioretinitis sclopetaria and advanced optic atrophy. orbital ct-scan showed transection of the optic nerve by the bb gun pellet at the orbital apex. conclusion: bb gun injury may cause concomitant optic nerve transection and chorioretinitis sclopetaria.

Concomitant optic nerve transection and chorioretinitis sclopetaria
BACKGROUND Optic nerve transection and chorioretinitis sclopetaria may occur following blunt ocular trauma. However, simultaneous occurrence has not yet been reported. We report the first case of concomitant optic nerve transection and chorioretinitis sclopetaria. CASE PRESENTATION A 12-year-old boy with history of BB gun injury to his right eye was referred for loss of vision. His visual acu...

a 15- year-old boy with history of bb gun injury to his left eye was referred to our center. his visual acuity was no light perception in the left eye. ocular findings were severe proptosis, conjunctival injection, and conjunctival vascular tortuosity. fundus examination revealed an extensive inferior chorioretinal scar compatible with chorioretinitis sclopetaria. a distinct bruit was detected ...
متن کامل[Dual cause of blindness: chorioretinitis sclopetaria and homonymous hemianopsia].
CLINICAL CASE We describe the case of a man who, after a gunshot wound to the right facial region, exhibited chorioretinitis sclopetaria of the right eye and a contralateral homonymous hemianopsia. DISCUSSION Chorioretinitis sclopetaria is a rare entity resulting from an ocular injury caused by a bullet passing through the orbit. It is not common to find the condition associated with a damage...

purpose: to present a case of chorioretinitis sclopetaria with attached retina in spite of performing deep vitrectomy without retinopexy. patient and findings: a 10-year-old boy was reffered due to air-gun injury to the left eye. right eye had visual acuity of 20/16, mg-, and normal slit lamp examination and fundoscopy. in the left eye, visual acuity was count fingers at 50 cm, mg+++, anterior ...
متن کاملTime course profiling of the retinal transcriptome after optic nerve transection and optic nerve crush
PURPOSE A time-course analysis of gene regulation in the adult rat retina after intraorbital nerve crush (IONC) and intraorbital nerve transection (IONT). METHODS RNA was extracted from adult rat retinas undergoing either IONT or IONC at increasing times post-lesion. Affymetrix RAE230.2 arrays were hybridized and analyzed. Statistically regulated genes were annotated and functionally clustere...
متن کاملOptic nerve transection in cats. II. Effect on vessels of optic nerve head and lamina cribrosa.
I n a prior communication we demonstrated that transection of the optic nerve of the cat with consequent retrograde neuronal degeneration did not lead to alteration of the ipsilateral retinal vasculature. We interpreted this to mean that retinal neuronal degeneration does not, of itself, cause an associated vascular degeneration. In the present study the vasculature of the optic disc region of ...
